“I can’t forget to take my paper to school tomorrow,” I hear my son say as he is finishing up his homework.

“You mean, I have to REMEMBER to take my paper to school tomorrow,” I say.  “Remember, we want to tell our brains what we want, not what we don’t want.”

“You’re right, Dad, I’ll remember that next time!”

How often do you hear someone say say, “Don’t foget to…”  Anamarie and I have noticed that people say or write that all the time.

One thing that Anamarie and I have been doing is to focus on saying what we want, not what we don’t want.  Our thoughts are powerful and they set up the attraction to us of the things that we think about.  So, every time we say, “don’t foget,” our minds are thinking, “forget,” instead of what we want which is to “remember!”

Also, if you do forget something, don’t say, “Dang, I always forget keys on the table.”  When you say that, you are giving your brain a command to forget the keys on the table.  That is why you “always forget!”  Instead say, “Next time I’m going to remember my keys.”  If you do this consistently, you’ll start to notice that you gradually remember your keys more often.

This may sound like a simple thing.  It shouldn’t make much of a difference, right?  Wrong.  Remember that it is the culmination of many small things that can make a profound differencePay attention to the words and thoughts that you have.  Start changing them to be the things you want and start paying attention to your results.  You will notice a change… for the better!

“Dang, I almost forgot my bag,” I say as I head back into the house to grab the sports bag I had left on the livingroom floor.”

“You mean, I’m glad I remembered my bag, right Dad?” my son says back to me with a huge smile.

As a wide grin crosses my face I say, “You are absolutely right!  I am so glad I remembered my bag.  And, I’m am so glad I have an amazing son like you to help me remember to think about what I want!  I love you!”
